Irish Music

The various theme songs of St. Patrick's Day repeatedly bellowed from the lungs of spirited Irishman each year, contain much more then just an unusual story. These musical tributes to the life, love and heartbreak of the infamous Irish characters they depict have become essential to modern St. Patrick's Day celebrations.

Early Celtic culture relied heavily on oral communication and took pride in passing down teachings and lessons through stories. As English rule began to spread though Ireland, Irish were forced to convert to speaking English. As with most oppressed groups, they used song to communicate and unify against the English. During the rule of Queen Elizabeth I, Irish artists and musicians were arrested and put to death.

From pub songs to jigs, the spirited melodies of the Irish never fail to inspire the Irish character in us all.
